A lottery winner in canton Zug found a friend had scammed him out of thousands of francs of winnings. The now former friend as been found guilty of embezzlement.

The man who won asked his friend to collect his winnings, as he doesn’t speak German well and also has some health problems. He had won CHF 46,000 – but he didn’t know that.

The friend came back and said the winnings were CHF 2,300. The lottery winner was so grateful he gave him CHF 200 as a thank you.

Then the friend asked the winner to delete all the pictures of the winning ticket from his phone. At that point the winner had his suspicions.

Two years after winning the prize, the former friend has to pay over CHF 4,000 in fines and costs – and also has a suspended fine of CHF 12,000.

But the winner still hasn’t got his money. He must now start a civil action for that.
