Major airshow hangs in the balance

The Swiss Patrol team

There’s only just over a week to go until the year’s largest air show – but all permissions that are needed haven’t been given.

The ZigAirMatt airshow hasn’t been held since 2019. At that meeting 35,000 spectators attended.

Although organisers have secured the right paperwork from federal authorities – local communal officials are still waiting.

The show is due to held at the airfield in Mollis in canton Glarus.

The mayor, Thomas Kistler, says they’re still waiting for documents and are in hourly contact with organisers to make sure everything is done on time.

If the commune and the canton don’t greenlight the event – the federal permissions which have been granted, will fall.

Organisers say they’re confident it will be sorted out in time.

If the show goes ahead – it promises to be spectacular.

Already lined up are several aerobatics teams – including the Swiss Patrol – and the parachute display tram from the RAF, the falcons.

Modern and classic aircraft will be arriving – everything from Typhoon fighter jets to bi-planes.

The ZigAirMatt show is due to be held the weekend of the 18th and 19th August.
