Macron most popular in French speaking Switzerland

French president Emmanuel Macron is very popular in the Suisse Romand.

Figures released by the French consulate show the results of 107 polling stations based in French speaking Switzerland. 

Macron secured 44%, the next most popular was the left-wing contender, Jean-Luc Mélenchon with nearly 19%, almost 9% voted for the extreme right-wing Eric Zemmour, the Green candidate Yannick Jadot scored over 8% and then in fifth place was the current contender, Marine Le Pen at 7.6%. 

Macron scored better this time than he did in his first election – up 11% from 2017. 

There are nearly 124,000 registered French voters in Switzerland and the turnout was 44%.
