Tourism companies in the Lötschental in Canton Valais are getting creative as visitor numbers have plummeted following the recent landslide over the town of Blatten.
Two-thirds of the hotel beds in the Lötschental were destroyed by the landslide or are no longer accessible.
The tourism industry is looking for solutions to offset the losses. The postal bus operator in the Lötschental Valley, for example, is now offering a hiking bus.
In order to save the winter season, they’re planning some temporary buildings with hotel beds so that there is more capacity for overnight stays.
