Yesterday’s votes have finally ended a long running dispute about the affiliation of the town of Moutier in the Bernese Jura.
Ever since the canton of Jura was formed in 1979, many in the region believed that the town should have been in the new, French speaking canton, and not in Bern.
Over the years, the dispute occasionally turned violent.
But yesterday, voters in both Jura and Bern cantons overwhelmingly approved a text which will settle the issue once and for all.
Moutier will join canton Jura on January 1st 2026.
