Owners of an historic bakery in canton Appenzell Innerhoden are hailing the support of the local community to get their business back up and running.
On Monday the Böhli bakery was razed to the ground by a fire. Everyone managed to get to safety, but a couple were treated for smoke inhalation.
Fire crews even managed to rescue the bakery’s cat.
Despite the fire being only three days ago, the bakery is almost ready to start production. A local brewery has offered part of its premises so the business can get going. Suppliers are bringing in raw materials on an emergency basis, temporary ovens are being installed.
In the meantime, other bakeries are supplying bread and other goods so sales can continue. They’ve been working extra shifts.
The owner, Markus Sutter, says they’ve been offered help from all over the town – he says, that’s awesome.
