Live on the left bank? Don't drink the water

Thousands of residents living on the left bank are being told not to drink tap water after a major water pipe burst near the Quai Gustav-Ador.

40,000 people are affected.

The pipe broke yesterday morning near the Baby-Plage and repair work is underway.

The utility company, the SIG, says there’s a chance that outside elements has been sucked into the pipe, contaminating the supply.

Emergency taps have been installed in the streets and water bottles are being distributed.

Schools in the affected areas will also be given water this morning.

Tests will be carried out today. It may take until late tomorrow before the supply is given the all clear.
