Liberals want tax cut on homes near airport

The Geneva section of the Liberal Party is proposing to cut the tax home owners’ pay in 18 communes that are affected by aircraft noise.

The Party is proposing to cut the ‘rental value tax’ – which is an amount calculated by a hypothetical potential rental income.

The Liberals say home owners affected by noise are paying a type of double penalty – as their property value is already negatively impacted.

Some are asking why not tackle the noise problem and place more restrictions on the airport?

The Party says it recognises the importance of the airport and they don’t want to harm it. But they do say they will insist on the strict adherence to the existing schedules which don’t allow for flights after 10pm, unless essential.
