Less water, but more flooding – that’s the worrying conclusion of a new report published by the Federal Environmental Office.
The study is predicting climate change will mean more water in the rivers over the winter as there will be less snow, then shortages of as much as 40% are expected in the summer. The average temperature of rivers and lakes will also rise.
Summers will be drier and hotter, straining agriculture, and rainfall will be heavier – which raises the risk of floods and landslides.
The report outlines a worst-case scenario if climate protection measures, such as cuts in CO2 levels, are not followed.
