Landlords who don’t accommodate their business tenants could be facing a long-term drought.
The director of the catering body Gastrosuisse says many bars and restaurants are now giving up their lease as the property owner is refusing to allow rent flexibility.
Daniel Borner says they’re likely to have empty premises for a while, costing far more than offering rent relief now.
The figures show there have never been so many bars, restaurant and hotels available to rent. The online platform Immoscout has 1,400 properties for rent – up 70% on the same time last year.
Gastrosuisse says the main reason owners are giving up is because they have to keep paying rent while they’re closed.
