A kebab shop owner in canton Sankt Gallen has been fined after customers fell ill due to infected meat.

The court heard in spring first a man became ill after eating a kebab and reported it to the canton earlier this year.

The Cantonal Health Department tested the meat and found it contained bacteria that would cause food poisoning and the manager was told to take immediate action.

But a few days later, five children became ill – and even had to be hospitalized.

A further test was made, and nothing had changed.

The owner of the shop in Rheintal has been fined CHF 3,000 and has to pay legal costs. The court also issued a two-year suspended fine of CHF 5,200.
