The decision by the City of Bern to project the Israeli flag on the famous Zytglogge is being criticised by many residents, saying it doesn’t reflect Swiss neutrality.
The flag was shown on Friday evening.
The City of Bern issued a statement saying the display of the flag was designed to show solidarity to Israel and its people. But the city is acknowledging the gesture was not appreciated by everyone, and it won’t be repeated.
The city did authorise a pro-Palestinian demonstration over the weekend – which passed off peacefully.
