Are we having a particularly wet spring – after a very dry winter, and is this rain making up for the lack of water over the last few months?
No on both counts according to forecasters.
Forecaster Frederick Glassey from MeteoNews told the Tribune de Genève that people seem to be getting used to warmer weather which is why we think it’s a grim start to the season.
In fact, the amount of rain this April is normal for this time of year.
But the rain is not evenly spread – western areas have had more rain than eastern parts of the country.
Heavy rain is helping Ticino which had very little precipitation over the winter and recent heavy snow in canton Valais means melt water will flow into rivers over the next few weeks.
But what sort of summer are we likely to get? Despite the exploding snowman in Zurich, the Böögg, predicting a cool season – MeteoNews says the models show so far we are heading towards a dry and sunny season.
