The upcoming vote on inheritance tax looks certain to fail – by a large margin – and it could be a disaster for the Young Socialists who proposed it.
The initiative wants to tax inheritances of more than CHF 50m at 50%.
Detractors say it could lead to many wealthy people leaving the country, hitting the tax base.
Polls show that it may even fail to reach a 30% approval. It would be the fourth time a proposal put forward by the Young Socialists has been rejected.
In other votes, the Citizen Service Initiative, which proposes all young people serve for a year in either the military or in civil protection also looks set to fail.
The latest polls show only 32% in favour.
The votes will be held at the end of the month.
