Over the past week, on average 7 people a day have died of Covid and there have been 8,400 new cases.
That’s lower than the week before which saw 12 deaths a day and 16,000 cases.
But the government is watching hospitalization rates – not infections. Currently 75% of intensive care beds are full – but only 13% are due to Covid.
Across Europe, Switzerland is doing better than France, Germany and Austria. This country has 1,888 cases per 100,000 people, lower than all the neighbouring countries except Italy, which is doing slightly better at 1,650.
78% of the population have had 2 vaccination doses and 42% have had a third.
Switzerland’s economic outlook remains cautious, with the KOF Swiss Economic Institute forecasting growth of around one percent in 2026,although that depends on falling oil prices.
Heavy traffic is expected across Switzerland over the Easter holiday period, particularly on the A2 Gotthard autoroute and the A13 San Bernardino route from March 27.
