Infections dropping, hospitalizations falling

Over the past week, on average 7 people a day have died of Covid and there have been 8,400 new cases.

That’s lower than the week before which saw 12 deaths a day and 16,000 cases.

But the government is watching hospitalization rates – not infections. Currently 75% of intensive care beds are full – but only 13% are due to Covid.

Across Europe, Switzerland is doing better than France, Germany and Austria. This country has 1,888 cases per 100,000 people, lower than all the neighbouring countries except Italy, which is doing slightly better at 1,650.

78% of the population have had 2 vaccination doses and 42% have had a third.
