Ideas on how to reduce health insurance

The cost of health insurance look set to be a major topic during this year’s federal elections.

The cost of insurance is expected to rise by around 6% next year.

The Liberal-Radical Party is putting forward a plan which they say could cut premiums by a quarter.

The party says it would allow for a more flexible type of policy which would allow people to select they would never ask for alternative medicine, such as acupuncture or homeopathy. And they would always accept cheaper generic drugs when available.

Other parties warn it could lead to a two-tier health system. The Socialist Party wants to bring in a rule that health premiums shouldn’t be more than 10% of someone’s income.
