Geneva’s car market is shifting gears.
In 2025, seven out of ten new passenger cars registered in the canton are hybrid or fully electric, according to the Cantonal Statistical Office.
Total registrations are expected to reach 11,605 vehicles — up 2.5 percent on last year.
Hybrids dominate at 56 percent, while fully electric models account for 13 percent.
Petrol and diesel cars still represent 30 percent of new sales. Volkswagen remains the top brand, followed closely by Mercedes, Audi and BMW.
But in total, the number of cars per capita is dropping in the canton. Last year there were about 214,000 registered cars - down just under one percent from the previous year.
