It was a good summer for the Swiss hotel sector. Over 22 million overnight stays between May and October according to the Federal Statistics Office.

That’s 22% more than the previous year – but still down 2% from the pre-pandemic 2019 summer.

Once travel restrictions were lifted, the number of foreign visitors surged. Most came from Europe – 84%.

The biggest group were the British, then Germans and France in third place.

There was also a significant increase in tourists from the United States and Asia.

There are hopes the winter season will also show a significant rise from the previous year.
