Fifty homes in the neighbouring French town of Bossey were empty last night after the residents were told to leave following a landslide on the Salève.
Yesterday around 300m2 of land slipped down above the village, taking part of the road with it.
Experts are now assessing the danger before home owners will be allowed back.
The cause of the land slip is also being investigated. Some say it was due to works nearby which caused the land to vibrate – but it could also be due to recent heavy rain.
