A coordination error means a new apartment block in Geneva’s Vernets district will open – but a year before a school which should be there for the new arrivals will be finished.
The residents will start arriving in the spring – including 150 children of primary school age.
There is supposed to be a school for them to go to – but a series of clashes between construction projects mean it’ll be at least another year before it’s ready.
Temporary buildings will be put up in the meantime.
There’s also a problem for the very young. A nursery will be ready, but only for 48 children.
190 are expected to arrive.
Geneva’s track record for new schools is not good – is takes around ten years to build one.
