Geneva has recorded its first fatal traffic accident of the year.
Police say a 48-year-old motorcyclist died Friday evening after fleeing a traffic stop on Route de Vessy at around 7:20 p.m.
The rider sped off toward the Val-d’Arve bridge and collided with a car at the intersection with Route du Bout-du-Monde.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The two occupants of the car were not injured.
Prosecutors have opened an investigation. It’s not known why he fled the police check.
