The heatwave is having a major impact on the well being of the elderly. The Geneva University Hospital says there’s a clear rise in admissions in the geriatric department.
Doctors say the temperature is aggravating conditions the patient already has - mainly heart problems.
But issues more connected directly to the heat are dehydration and many not eating enough as the weather has sapped their appetite. The hospital says many are admitted in a state of confusion or after a fall.
But specialist, Dr Phillipe Huber, told the Tribune de Genève, it’s difficult to directly link the heatwave with a death.
