Health insurance to rise next year

We’re in for a health insurance price shock next year.

At a press conference in Bern yesterday, the health minister Alain Berset outlined a general price rise of 6.6% - although the actual amount will vary between cantons.

At the moment we pay on average CHF 313 a month – but next year, that will go up CHF 21.

All cantons will see an increase. The most expensive will be Basel. Residents will be paying around CHF 426 a month – the next highest is Geneva, at CHF 418.

The government say the covid pandemic is to blame. This is down to the cost of vaccines and more medical interventions.

General healthcare costs are also rising. Berset says containment of those costs are a priority.
