To the surprise of everyone, health insurance premiums in Geneva are actually going to fall next year.

But the canton is still the most expensive in the Confederation.

Average premiums in Geneva stand at CHF 478.20. But prices will fall 2.4% next year.

All French speaking cantons will see a drop next year.

Across the country the average fall will be point 3 of a percent. But some cantons will see an increase.

The Federal Health Office is pressuring the insurance companies to reduce the reserves they hold – currently more than CHF 12bn – that’s 7bn more than they are legally obliged to have.
