Health executive pay should be capped

The top pay of health insurance executives should be capped – says the National Council Social Security and Health Committee.

The proposal would limit compensation for members of insurers’ governing bodies to the top salary level in the federal administration  -  currently about CHF 405,000 a year.

Lawmakers say high executive pay is unjustified as premiums keep rising, and they want stricter transparency rules to ensure compliance.

The measure, based on an initiative by SP National Councillor Baptiste Hurni, was approved by 14 votes to 9. The consultation runs until February.
