Haute Savoie brings in restrictions to limit trouble risk

In an effort to curb potential violence – the Prefect of the neighbouring French department, Haute Savoie, is banning alcohol in the streets, fireworks and the selling of petrol in jerrycans for the next ten days.

This weekend is set to be busy with the Bastille weekend celebrations and the Tour de France passing through the region.

There will also be extra police on the streets.

Authorities remain concerned trouble could erupt once again following the death of a 17-year-old near Paris after being shot by a police officer.

There’s already been violence in the region. The Deputy Mayor of Annemasse was recently attacked and injured by rioters.
