A number of security guards at federal detention centres for asylum seekers have been suspended after a judge was asked to investigate claims of violence.

The issue of brutality has been highlighted by several media reports over the last few months. The government decided to launch an investigation and asked former federal judge, Niklaus Oberholzer, to lead it.

Oberholzer has acted quickly with the suspensions. They worked at different centres, in Basel, Sankt Gallen and Neuchatel.

One of the roles of the investigation is to make sure activity logs are being kept accurately.
