The Green Party beat the Swiss People’s Party in yesterday’s run-off election for a seat on the Geneva Council of State.
But turnout was a dismal 32%, the lowest since 1980.
Despite losing, the right-wing candidate, Lionel Dugerdil, achieved a better result than expected, collecting support from the centre voters – despite centrist parties not publishing a recommendation to their supporters.
But the Green Party’s Nicolas Walder takes the seat as left-wing voters backed him.
