Geneva is desperately short of nurses and the canton is willing to throw money at the problem.
While more people are being attracted to the profession – it’s not nearly enough, according to the cantonal health minister, Anne Hiltpold.
Grants of up to CHF 3,000 a month are now being offered to students to train.
The aim is to have 600 students by 2028 – this year there are 535, but around a quarter will drop out before the end of the course. It’s hoped grants will persuade more to finish.
To qualify, the student must either live in Geneva or neighbouring France.
