A grandmother has died after trying to save her grandson on the Col de la Faucille in the Pays de Gex.
The three-year-old was on a sled, which picked up speed and lost control.
The 61-year-old woman fell when she tried to catch up with him. Reports say she died on the spot, despite rapid intervention by the air ambulance.
The young boy was unhurt.
