Govt looks to solve drug shortage

The government says it’s taking strong measure to counter the shortage of drugs.

There’s a global shortage of pharmaceuticals, supply lines are weak and there are too few manufacturers – according to the Federal Council.

Some action has already ben taken – such as allowing the import and use of drugs that haven’t been cleared by Swiss authorities provided countries with similar levels of safety have cleared them.

The government is also looking at more domestic production.

Although it’s hoped the new measure will help, the director of the Federal Health Office Anne Lévy, says the problem is worldwide and Switzerland can’t fix it by itself. She says she expects the shortages to continue for the time being.
