The government is looking at ways to accelerate house building and one way may be to limit the right of individuals to object to a new project.
Currently anyone can object to a new construction – even if it’s for purely selfish reasons - free of charge.
These objections can delay the start for years.
Many politicians want to bring in the obligation that there has to be a legitimate interest, and the objector could face fines or have to pay for the court case if unsuccessful.
The government is also considering loosening the laws which aim to protect the character of towns in favour of new builds.
