The Federal Council wants to reopen the debate on nuclear power.
In 2017, 58% of voters decided that no new nuclear reactors would be built in Switzerland. Their view reinforced by the Fukushima disaster in Japan in 2011.
But now the energy crisis is leading to a rethink.
The Liberal Party is pushing for a new debate – that’s an important development as they were behind the ban 6 years ago.
The move also has an ally in the Environment Minister, Albert Rösti – who is pro-nuclear.
