Geothermal survey spreads to France

Geneva is launching another analysis of the ground today to explore the viability of geothermal energy.

It was two years ago the vibrator trucks were on the streets and sensors placed around the city to form a picture of the subsoil.

Engineers believe the 30% of the canton’s energy needs can be met with geothermal.

A new survey will be carried now which will now spread to neighbouring France.

The vibrator trucks will be set to 15 communes in canton Geneva and 22 French municipalities.

They’ll operate overnight – and local complaints are expected.

After the last survey, several people complained about cracks forming in their homes.

The utility company, the SIG, which is running the survey, is still facing lawsuits over the alleged damage.
