Geneva woman faces large parking fine

A woman in Geneva is facing a fine of over CHF 1,200 because she failed to read a sign outlining the parking rules.

Identified only as Emma, the woman parked on the Rue Liotard in a blue zone and she has the relevant permit which in theory would give her unlimited time.

But she didn’t see the sign which noted cars were not allowed to park there on market days.

The car was removed and impounded.  But the owner complains she was never told.

Emma doesn’t use her car often and two weeks after she parked up, she noticed the car was gone.

She called the police, believing it had been stolen, but they told her they had it.

She says if she had been called, she would have picked it up, therefore cutting the fine.

But the police say they have no obligation to inform car owners if their car has been impounded.
