Geneva will not bring in stricter rules than set out by Bern

Geneva will not impose stricter measures on mask wearing than those set out by Bern – although cantons do have the right to.

The Geneva Council of State met yesterday in an extraordinary session to discuss the new rules.

But it did issue some clarifications. In addition to public transport, which remains a federal instruction, masks do also need to be worn in hospitals and care homes.

But importantly, the canton says it will support private event organisers or business owners to set their own rules if they decide masks need to be worn.

With the lifting of the obligation to work from home – there will still be allowances for those deemed at risk, until the end of March.

The Council issued a statement saying it welcomes the relaxation - but it urges people to remain cautious as the virus is still circulating at a very high level.
