Geneva is to follow a programme in Zurich which is designed to help those who have a sexual attraction to children.

The programme is for those who have not committed a crime – but realize they have a problem.

A report by the ‘Say No’ Association estimates there are 50,000 adults who are attracted to children in the country. Since the Zurich service opened a year ago – they’ve been contacted around once a week. 48 of those seeking help were men – and 2 were women.

The lead doctor of the programme at the Geneva University Hospital, Lorenzo Soldati, says many don’t ask for help fearing they could be reported to the police.

The question on how the professionals should react if they fear there’s a danger of a patient acting out their desires is still being discussed.
