Geneva to get city centre sports hall

The City of Geneva will borrow CHF 115m to complete a major project around the new Eaux-Vives Léman Express train station.

The development will include housing, a nursery, cultural centre and – for the first time in the centre of the city - a sports hall.

The hall will include a climbing wall, an indoor swimming pool as well as various multipurpose areas.

One argument was the length of the pool. Some wanted to lose the climbing wall to make the pool 33 meters long – which would make it suitable for water polo. But the wall stays and the pool is cut to 25 meters.

The sports minister, Marie Barbey-Chappuis, says it meets the needs of the people.
