Canton Geneva has published a plan to cut road noise by cutting speed limits – especially at night.
The infrastructure minister, Serge Dal Busco, says the moves will reduce noise for around 70,000 residents.
The canton will be divided into residential areas and main routes with limits cut down from 50 to 30 in some and down to 50 for roads which have currently higher limits. Some restrictions will apply only at night.
Dal Busco says the canton has a legal commitment to cut noise, but he says noise blights the lives of many people.
