The Administrative Council will ask the City for CHF 16m to purchase 12 new trucks, 10 sweepers and 20 smaller vehicles used to empty rubbish bins in parks.
The move will mean that 40% of the fleet will be electric.
The City says replacing the vehicles makes sense as many are more than 20 years old, highly polluting and need regular maintenance.
Also, there is a commitment to have half of the fleet electric by 2050.
Some of the money will be used to install new charging points.
It will take at least a year before the new vehicles will be ready.
