Geneva seeks to ban Nazi symbols

Canton Geneva is pushing for a ban on wearing or displaying Nazi symbols in public.

Many other European countries do have a ban in place.

A Geneva Jewish community leader, Johanne Gurfinkiel, say the lack of a ban makes it easy for far-right groups to gather in Switzerland and sell Nazi memorabilia online.

A broad range of Geneva politicians have submitted a text to be voted on Friday, which marks the 90th anniversary of Hitler appointed Chancellor.

It will then be sent to Bern in the hopes the Federal Parliament will also pass it.

Ultimately, for it to take effect nationwide, it will need to go to a popular vote.
