The roads around Geneva train station will not be closed this autumn.
A plan by the previous government called for traffic to be diverted away from the centre of the city.
It’s part of a multi-pronged attempt to improve public transport flow and provide better conditions for cyclists.
But the new transport minister, Pierre Maudet, says more time is needed to study the impact of the closure.
But campaigners for better public transport are outraged. The head of the Geneva Transport and Environment Association, Caroline Marti, says the move lacks common sense.
Road closures will be needed when expansion works at the train station start. But that’s not due for several years.
