A person living in Geneva is under medical observation after travelling on the same flight as a passenger infected with hantavirus, Swiss health authorities have confirmed.
The individual is currently asymptomatic and self-isolating at home under the supervision of cantonal health officials.
Authorities stress the person was not on board the cruise ship where the outbreak was first detected.
The Federal Office of Public Health and the World Health Organization continue to describe the risk to the wider public as very low, emphasizing that the Andes strain involved requires very close contact for transmission.
