Geneva protestors clash with police

Around 300 protestors clashed with police in Paquis in Geneva on Friday night. The march was called to defend the right of housing.

Speeches on the Place de Navigation demanded empty buildings to be used, criticized the condition of emergency accommodation for refugees and said there should more help for the homeless.

The demonstration had not been authorized and while police initially kept a low profile, organisers were warned they wouldn’t be permitted on to the main roads to block traffic and public transport.

Officers later had to physically hold back the crowd when it tried to break away from the agreed route.

The police said there had been no arrests.
