Geneva police to investigate religious meeting

Geneva police are investigating a religious gathering on the lakeside. Since 2019, all religious events in the public space need authorization because of the secularism law.

Passers-by reported a group of Jewish worshippers near the Jet d’eau. A private security guard kept others away and had set up a cordon.

One said she was physically pushed away as she approached to see what was happening.

The group seemed to be celebrating Tashlikh which takes place during the Hebrew New Year. It involved throwing bread into the water.
