Geneva police say they're exhausted

Geneva police officers say they are exhausted and there are not enough of them to cover all the needs of the canton.

They’re complaining to unions and management about their heavy workload -mainly due to the large number of demonstrations – many of which take place at the weekend.

In an open letter, several officers say there isn’t enough recovery time and it’s only getting worse.

They also point out there’s an increased need for more police at major sporting events.

It means leave is cancelled on a regular basis – they say that should only be the case in exceptional circumstances, not a normal routine.
