Geneva municipal police officers have been given a new power by the canton – the ability to use radar guns and fine speeding drivers.
Until now that could only be done by cantonal officers.
The first speed check by municipal police was carried out in Meyrin yesterday. The local force has been ready for this time for a while. They bought their first radar several years ago.
They fined several drivers for low level speeding offences outside a school.
The law actually changed at the beginning of last month – the officers have been trained in its use over the last few weeks.
