Geneva Lake Parade attracts 150,000 people over two days

After a six-year absence, the Lake Parade in Geneva over the weekend drew crowds of around 150,000 people for its 23rd edition.

Organisers say that the heat kept some people away but, overall, the techno-parade was an overwhelming success. The event cost around one million francs to stage.

Between 80,000 and 100,000 people watched the parade of 14 floats, all blasting music as they travelled around the lake from Parc Mon-Repos to Quai Gustave-Ador.

In the evening, an estimated 39,000 revelers turned out for the Lake Sensation, where two music stages kept the party going into the night with DJs, professional dancers and light shows.

Police say that the parade passed off relatively calmly although around 60 people were treated for the effects of excessive alcohol, half of those during the Lake Parade and the other half during the evening celebrations. No serious incidents were reported.
