Geneva hospital begins blood donation campaign with an ice cream

A campaign has been launched in Geneva to encourage people to donate blood by giving them more than a cup of tea and a biscuit after they make a donation.

Yesterday, blood donors at Geneva University Hospitals, or the HUG, were each offered an ice cream after they donated blood as a thank you for boosting much needed blood supplies to fill a summer shortage.

Blood donations typically drop over the summer months as people go on holiday, leading to some surgeries being postponed due to the lack of certain blood groups.

The next blood donation with a thank you treat is on Thursday August 4th when sweet and savoury waffles will be on offer. On Thursday August 25th, blood donors will be offered a slice of pizza.
