Geneva gets control of roadworks

Works on the Rue de Carouge

Geneva is finally getting a grip on construction chaos.

After months of gridlock, the Canton has taken control of planning major works.

A new platform coordinates construction to prevent overlapping sites and limit street closures. Some projects have been postponed, others resized, and a system to compensate affected shopkeepers has been introduced.

The state is also pushing to reduce car traffic, offering businesses mobility tools and mapping all construction impacts, aiming for smoother streets and better planning.

Geneva minister, Pierre Maudet, says the city will see years of work ahead – especially with the extension of the train station. He says authorities need more control of road works.
